Camps & Excursions

Swan Hill College offers a very broad range of opportunities to all students from year 7 to 12 via camps and extra-curricular activities.

Year 7 start the year by running Bonding Day sessions in term 1. This is usually completed at a local lake, where our staff and VCAL students take students through a range of bonding activities to help them all get to know each other. Later in the year they have the opportunity to attend a snow camp. This camp sees them attending as a whole cohort and gives them the experience of skiing and learning a great deal about Australian history by visiting Beechworth and Glenrowan.

Year 8 sees our students off to Tasmania. Trekking around Tasmania students visit: Port Arthur, Hobart and the surrounding districts. Arrival is via the Spirit of Tasmania, and students visit Tasmazia, Port Arthur Ghost tour, Seahorse World, Coal Farm and Zoodoo Animal Farm, before flying back to Melbourne and busing back to Swan Hill.

Year 9 allows three boys and three girls the opportunity to one of 3 Alpine Campuses across the state, for one term (Snowy River, Gnurad Gundidj, Dinner Plain). This camp involves a selection process, seeing students and parents coming in for an interview. Bogong camp is also offered during Year 9. A leadership camp that goes for a week with a small number of students in attendance, this camp only runs depending on numbers. The Duke of Edinborough is also offered to our Year 9 students, again this is an application process giving students the opportunity to gain their bronze certificate.

Senior School sees our senior students all put together and given the opportunity to go to the Central Australian Outback. This camp allows year 10-12 to enjoy the experience as a sub school, with up to 80 allowed to attend. Experiences such as Alice Springs and Ayers Rock are some of the highlights.

From Year 9 to senior school our camps become minimal as we offer a huge range of extracurricular activities to our students, some are via the subjects they choose and some are via the sub schools.  Many of our Outdoor Ed, PreCal and PE classes run great camps. Our Careers team offer a great Work Experience Camp to Geelong, as well as many day and overnight excursions to universities. All of our student leaders are offered Leadership Training via outside sources to Melbourne and travel down overnight for this as well. Our Wellbeing Department also run great opportunities for our students, with guest speakers, speaking for the day on various topics to taking students on excursions. The Clontarf Academy also run many varied and wide camps to all over Australia.
